The Kalonjis had recently closed on the foreclosed home and were working on it, when the armed man and another person threatened their lives:

He say to put the hands up and get out from the house, otherwise he would shoot us,” Mr. Kolanji told Channel 2 News.

His wife, Angelica, was equally threatened:

Apparently the neighbors didn’t believe them when they said they owed the home, so they called the police. When authorities arrived, the Kalonjis, who didn’t have the closing papers with them, were arrested and charged with loitering and prowling.

Yvette Harris, the couple’s real estate agent, said they never should have been arrested.

They rightfully own this house,” said Yvette Harris, the couple’s real estate agent, ” this should never have happened.”

The Kalonjis immigrated from the Congo and Mr. Kalonji said that the incident brought back horrific memories for him:

There, they put me down with the gun to my head, and come here, the same,” he said.

The Newton County Sheriff’s office is currently looking in the issue, “to find out exactly why it occurred.” The vigilante neighbors had no comment.
